New Equipment, Glazes and More

We Are Almost Ready to Launch!

Well, it’s been almost exactly a month since we first told you that the Staunton Clayground is coming, and what a busy four weeks these have been! For those of you who don’t follow us on our Facebook or Instagram or keep up with our blog on the website, here’s a little recap!

First of all, thank you to all of you who have signed up for our newsletter and who have been so patient during our long, long journey towards opening. Also, thank you so much to all of the businesses and organizations who have wanted to place and hang our postcards on their bulletin boards, walls and counter tops, to help us spread the word!

Our promotional postcard, featuring in the background the handbuilt flowers from a vase crafted by our very own founder, Cary Dahl. Aren’t they pretty?

We got to unpack and set up our bank of brand new pottery wheels especially for classes! Four on each side, capped by one for the teacher, for a total of nine. We will also have an area with 2 or 3 dedicated member wheels. We’re aiming to have 12 wheels altogether, so that members can “Come and clay!” even when classes are going on. We’re still working on that area, so more on that in a future post!

Our nine brand new Shimpo VL-Lites. Aren’t they pretty? I can’t wait to play!

Wheel not your thing? More of a hand builder? Like to do both? No worries, we’ve got you covered! Here’s a pic of our super new Northstar slab roller, big enough to roll out slabs 24” in width, more than enough to make some big and beautiful projects!

We’ve been putting it to good use the last few days to start cranking out test tiles (literally) for the glazes we’ve selected! We are eagerly looking forward to assembling the glaze test-tile wall that already exists in our imaginations.

Just a couple hundred more of these to make, then we can start testing our glazes!

… and speaking of glazes, we’ve put a lot of thought into selecting clays and a harmonious palette of glazes to use on them. So far, we’ve posted previews of our choices of wonderful warm browns and inspiring blues. Here are some sneak peeks for you, or check out the full posts at the links above.

Our blues and browns! Can’t wait to show you the rest

And thank you, again, to all of you who have supported us by signing up for this newsletter, visiting our blog and website and following us on Facebook and Instagram! The next newsletter post we send out will have our Open House date, so stay tuned! We are almost ready to launch. We are so very excited!
